CCD Measurements of Double and Multiple Stars at NAO Rozhen. IV

    Get PDF
Using the 2 m telescope of the Bulgarian National Astronomical Observatory at Rozhen observations of 30 double or multiple stars were carried out during two half nights on July 20and 21, 2009. This is the fourth series of measurements of CCD frames of double and multiple stars obtained at Rozhen. In this paper we present the results for the position angle and separation for 23 double and 5 multiple stars (35 pairs) which could have been measured

The Application of Bass Diffusion Model in Forecasting Telecommunication Services Users in Military Assistance to Civilian Authorities

This paper analyses the application of Bass’s diffusion model in forecasting the number of telecommunication services users in the event of natural disasters. Citizens’ behaviour has been modelled in the case of an emergency situation caused by an earthquake with high magnitude. We analysed the area of an administrative district in the south-west part of the Republic of Serbia which includes two cities and three municipalities. To control the consequences of natural disasters, a unit of the Army of Serbia with the required number of radio transceivers for establishing communication between the vulnerable population and rescuers with command staff at the observed territory has been dimensioned. Special emphasis is given to the provision of telecommunication support in the military assistance in a relief operation with civil authorities.Defence Science Journal, Vol. 65, No. 2, March 2015, pp.144-149, DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/dsj.65.602

Collisional properties of cold spin-polarized nitrogen gas: theory, experiment, and prospects as a sympathetic coolant for trapped atoms and molecules

We report a combined experimental and theoretical study of collision-induced dipolar relaxation in a cold spin-polarized gas of atomic nitrogen (N). We use buffer gas cooling to create trapped samples of 14N and 15N atoms with densities 5+/-2 x 10^{12} cm-3 and measure their magnetic relaxation rates at milli-Kelvin temperatures. Rigorous quantum scattering calculations based on accurate ab initio interaction potentials for the 7Sigma_u electronic state of N2 demonstrate that dipolar relaxation in N + N collisions occurs at a slow rate of ~10^{-13} cm3/s over a wide range of temperatures (1 mK to 1 K) and magnetic fields (10 mT to 2 T). The calculated dipolar relaxation rates are insensitive to small variations of the interaction potential and to the magnitude of the spin-exchange interaction, enabling the accurate calibration of the measured N atom density. We find consistency between the calculated and experimentally determined rates. Our results suggest that N atoms are promising candidates for future experiments on sympathetic cooling of molecules.Comment: 48 pages, 17 figures, 3 table

GeV-scale neutrinos: interactions with mesons and DUNE sensitivity

The simplest extension of the SM to account for the observed neutrino masses and mixings is the addition of at least two singlet fermions (or right-handed neutrinos). If their masses lie at or below the GeV scale, such new fermions would be produced in meson decays. Similarly, provided they are sufficiently heavy, their decay channels may involve mesons in the final state. Although the couplings between mesons and heavy neutrinos have been computed previously, significant discrepancies can be found in the literature. The aim of this paper is to clarify such discrepancies and provide consistent expressions for all relevant effective operators involving mesons with masses up to 2 GeV. Moreover, the effective Lagrangians obtained for both the Dirac and Majorana scenarios are made publicly available as FeynRules models so that fully differential event distributions can be easily simulated. As an application of our setup, we numerically compute the expected sensitivity of the DUNE near detector to these heavy neutral leptons.Comment: v4: Minor updates and text modifications. Diamide-based fullerosteroidal and disteroidal [2] rotaxanes: solvent-induced macrocycle translocation and/or unthreading

    Get PDF
The synthesis, characterization and behaviour of two novel Leigh-type amide [2]rotaxanes are reported. NMR study shows that fullerosteroidal and disteroidal rotaxanes occur in a peptide co-conformation in CDCl3. [D-6]DMSO induces fast unthreading of disteroidal rotaxane, which includes steroid co-conformers as intermediates. On the other hand, fullerosteroidal rotaxane undergoes predominantly a shuttling process occupying the stacked co-conformation, whereas unthreading is very slow in comparison with its disteroidal analogue (25% after 7 days). Moreover, organogelation and self-organization properties were studied. It was found that disteroidal rotaxane is an organogelator and its SEM image shows that it forms a branched film-like network in a PhMe/EtOAc 1 : 1 mixture

This paper presents a model of communication and information system in military operations. Here OPNET MODELER simulation package is applied because it is suitable for network modelling, topology and capacity planning. Simulation of different types of IP traffic and monitor their performance to optimise the functionality of network elements, management performance network applications, and as well as in research and development of new network technologies. Application of the method of mass service are determined by the capacity needed for voice transmission on the links in the model and using the OPNET MODELER simulation program are analysed performance modeled communication information system in data transmission. The results of the simulation are presented through target the service settings: workload links communication and information system, e-mail download response time, http page download response time and packet loss in data transfer. The aim of the research has shown that modeled communication information system with defined elements (nodes), the capacity of links (according to the specification of telecommunication devices) and defined traffic can respond to the requirements of command forces in the military operation in terms of telecommunication service. The results of the analysed service target parameters show that modeled communication and information system provides an efficient flow of information and the tra nsfer of voice and IP data for the needs of command and control in military operations

Optical observations of the nearby galaxy IC342 with narrow band [SII] and Hα\alpha filters. I

We present observations of the portion of the nearby spiral galaxy IC342 using narrow band [SII] and Hα\alpha filters. These observations were carried out in November 2011 with the 2m RCC telescope at Rozhen National Astronomical Observatory in Bulgaria. In this paper we report coordinates, diameters, Hα\alpha and [SII] fluxes for 203 HII regions detected in two fields of view in IC342 galaxy. The number of detected HII regions is 5 times higher than previously known in these two parts of the galaxy.Comment: 9 pages, 3 tables, 4 figures. Table 3 corrected + small corrections in the tex
